Deutsche Yachten member MEOS has developed the railing system 2.0, setting new standards in quality and design.
MEOS GmbH, established as a metal expert since 1903 and based in its new building in Kiel-Melsdorf since 2019, is one of the world’s most renowned manufacturers of railing systems for the superyacht industry. MEOS’ range of services includes complete railing systems, including glass, carbon fiber and wooden parts, safety gates, ventilation and venting louvers as well as special fittings. Based on this expertise, the newly developed railing system 2.0 from MEOS sets new standards in the industry.
Unlike previous railings, the integrated railing system 2.0 uses a revolutionary production method that completely eliminates the need for tubes as supports, bottom rails or handrails. The railing consists of straight or curved glass panels that are embedded in a contoured floor module at the bottom and fitted with a handrail at the top. The floor module, in turn, is integrated into the structure of the yacht using a standardized interface, which simplifies installation.
Due to the manufacturing process, the handrail can be realized in completely new geometries, deviating from previous round and oval cross-sections and commercially available tube dimensions. Complete individualization for a single project would also be possible. A further manufacturing process also makes tight radii possible, for example in the area of stairs.
A prototype or sample of the integrated railing system 2.0 can be inspected and tested in Melsdorf. Dr. Reinhard Mehl, owner and Managing Director of MEOS GmbH, says: “Every product can be approached disruptively. Of course, our new railing will not replace the old forms, but it can be an alternative. Glass and the associated transparency is also an important topic for many yachts.”
MEOS has specialized in the production of highly complex prototypes and small series – and the railing system 2.0 is a good example of this. The Deutsche Yachten member works with stainless steel, aluminum and steel and has already been involved in 91 superyacht projects. In addition to yacht outfitting, MEOS also serves the industrial, defense and rail sectors.
We are proud to underline the importance of German engineering through innovative members like MEOS,” says Claus-Ehlert Meyer, Managing Director of Deutsche Yachten. “MEOS’ new achievements show how important technological advances are for the future of the superyacht industry. All Deutsche Yachten members stand for quality and innovation – and MEOS embodies these values perfectly.”
